Terms of Use
Last updated October 27, 2026
In short: this is a free, personal project run by one person. It's provided as is, it may change or stop, and data can be lost. Don't misuse it, and only upload what you have the right to share. The public dataset has its own open license.
1. Agreement
These terms apply to registry.coffee, its catalog, and the app at app.registry.coffee (together, the "service"). The service is run by an individual (the "operator", "we" or "us"). By using the service, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
2. Accounts and access
- The app is invite-only. You need to be at least 13, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live.
- Keep your login safe. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- We may refuse, suspend or end any account, or any part of the service, at any time, for any reason or none, with or without notice.
3. Your content
- You keep ownership of what you log and upload: shots, bags, equipment, notes and photos.
- You're responsible for it. Only upload photos you have the right to share, and don't upload other people's personal information.
- You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, process and display your content to run, secure and improve the service. That includes sending a bag photo to a processor to read its label.
- You also grant us the right to use your content in aggregated or de-identified form, which can't reasonably identify you, including in published statistics. The license for aggregated or de-identified use continues after your account ends.
- We may remove any content at any time.
4. The catalog and dataset
- The catalog is compiled from facts that roasters publish on their public storefronts.
- It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and we don't guarantee that any coffee is accurate, available or priced as shown.
- Prices aren't offers. Any purchase is between you and the roaster, on the roaster's own terms.
- Roasters can be added, or opt out, with the "Add a roaster" form.
- The public dataset is licensed separately under the Community Data License Agreement – Permissive 2.0. That license, not these terms, governs how you use the dataset. The code is MIT-licensed.
5. Acceptable use
Don't:
- scrape or bulk-download the app (use the public dataset instead)
- get around or overload rate limits
- probe, scan or test the service's security without our written permission (to report a vulnerability, email support@registry.coffee)
- access accounts or data that aren't yours
- post or sell invites publicly
- upload malware, or illegal, infringing or abusive content
- use the service to break the law
6. No warranty
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We don't promise that the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure or error-free, or that data won't be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you can't afford to lose. Any brewing suggestions are informational only.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- The operator won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or goodwill, arising from or related to the service, even if advised they were possible.
- The operator's total liability for all claims is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the 12 months before the claim. The service is free, so that amount is zero.
Some places don't allow some of these limits, so they apply to you only as far as the law allows.
8. Indemnity
You'll defend, indemnify and hold harmless the operator against any claims, losses, liabilities and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from:
- your content
- your misuse of the service
- your breach of these terms
9. Changes and ending
- We may change these terms by posting the new version here with a new date. If you keep using the service after a change, you accept it.
- We may change, suspend or discontinue the service at any time.
- You can stop using it at any time, and ask us to delete your account.
- Sections 3 (the aggregated and de-identified use license), 6, 7, 8 and 10 continue to apply after your use ends.
10. Law and disputes
- The laws of the State of Michigan, USA, govern these terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
- Any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Michigan, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
- Any claim must be brought within one year after it arises, as far as the law allows.
11. General
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
- If any part of them is unenforceable, the rest still applies, and that part is enforced as far as possible.
- If we don't enforce a term, we haven't waived it.
- You can't transfer these terms. We can.
